2. What this website does, and what it does not

This website presents Douro Aventura's activities and lets you send a booking request. It is not an online shop and it does not process payments. At no point are you asked for card details.

Sending a request is not a confirmed booking and creates no obligation to pay. It is an expression of interest, which we respond to.

3. How a booking is made

  1. You choose your activities and send the request, giving your preferred date and the number of participants.
  2. You automatically receive an email with a summary and a reference.
  3. We check availability of equipment, our diary and river conditions, and reply by email or phone.
  4. The booking is only confirmed by that express reply from us.
  5. Only after confirmation should you pay, by MB Way or bank transfer.

Payments made before our confirmation are refunded if there is no availability on the requested date. We strongly recommend waiting for the confirmation.

4. Prices

Prices shown on the website are in euros and include VAT at the rate in force. They cover the equipment needed for the activity and the compulsory safety equipment.

Some activities — the banana boat and towable tubes, and the inflatables — are priced according to the number of participants and the type of event, and are shown as "on request". In those cases the price is given in writing in response to a quote request and is valid on the terms stated there.

We may change prices at any time. The price that applies is the one stated in our written confirmation.

5. Safety and conditions of participation

Activities take place in a natural environment and carry inherent risk. By taking part, you accept the following:

  • Wearing a life jacket is compulsory on all water activities, without exception.
  • You must follow the safety instructions given by our instructors.
  • You must tell us, before the activity, about any health condition, physical limitation, pregnancy or medication that may be relevant.
  • Participation under the influence of alcohol or drugs is not permitted.
  • Minors take part under the responsibility and, where applicable, the supervision of a responsible adult.

We reserve the right to refuse or stop the participation of anyone who does not meet these conditions or whose behaviour endangers their own safety or that of others, without refund.

Minimum ages per activity to be defined

6. Insurance

Douro Aventura holds the compulsory public liability and personal accident insurance required of tourist entertainment operators in Portugal.

Insurer, policy number and cover to be confirmed

7. Weather and river conditions

Safety takes precedence over running the activity. If weather, water flow or the state of the river do not allow the activity to run safely, we offer a new date or, where that is not possible, refund in full any amount already paid.

8. Cancellation and changes

Cancelling before payment costs nothing: simply reply to the confirmation email or call us.

Deadlines and terms for cancellation after payment to be defined

Under Article 17(1)(l) of Portuguese Decree-Law no. 24/2014 of 14 February, the right of withdrawal does not apply to contracts for leisure services with a specific date or period of performance.

9. Photography

Photographs or video may be taken during activities for promotional use. If you would rather your image were not used, tell us before the activity starts — saying so is enough.

10. Liability

Douro Aventura is liable for damage attributable to it under general law. We are not liable for loss, theft or damage to participants' personal belongings, nor for damage resulting from failure to follow safety instructions.

11. Disputes

In the event of a consumer dispute, you may refer the matter to the competent alternative consumer dispute resolution body. You may also submit a complaint through the electronic Complaints Book.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by Portuguese law.
